NATURE-CONNECT SCHOOL PROGRAM
In line with SDG13 and in sync with the school syllabus, our Nature-Connect school program is the result of in-depth hands-on primary research and constant improvements since 2017.
(Thought)
Sow eco-consciousness in the minds of children by co-creating a farm with children in their school
(Practice)
Nurture thought into action by introducing sustainable practices like composting, and waste segregation in their daily routine
(Propagate)
Train them to promote this positive ecological behavior and grow the consciousness
It all starts with setting up the school farm, along with its own composting and waste-segregation unit. Working closely with children and teachers, our dedicated team of facilitators follows an intuitively structured framework of carefully crafted modules that combine academic concepts, seasonality, and environmental issues, in a seamless manner with farming.
When children come together to make the school farm, sow seeds, and nurture it, they become more aware of the environment around them, and it becomes easy to understand the role of nature and its importance in our lives on a daily basis. Concepts of arithmetic, geometry, geography, biology, chemistry and physics step out of the syllabus in the form of on-ground challenges and discoveries. Teamwork, patience, perseverance, gratitude and compassion stop being just words, they become lived experiences.
Slowly, composting becomes a habit and segregating waste enters daily routine as both are essential to run the farm. With time, caring for the environment doesn’t remain just a responsible thing to do, it becomes second nature.
Each year, we organise Roots, an event where all the essential elements, School teachers, Sowgood facilitators, Partners, Collaborators, and a few members from the SowGood Community, gather together to review their work, and brainstorm to crack ideas to improve the Program for the next year.
